A small tree. It grows 2-8 m tall. The young branches can have hairs. The bark is cracked and reddish on older branches. The leaf blades are 10-30 cm long by 4-15 cm wide. They are oval. They are leathery. The flowers are in clusters and hang from the ends of the branches. There are 3-17 flowers in a group and they have a sweet scent. The flower petals are white with purple spots on the throat. The fruit is 2-5 cm long and round. They are rust coloured. The seeds are brown and 7 mm long by 5 mm wide and 1 mm thick.
Corolla white with red-purple spots at throat, golden pubescent outside when dry; tube short, 4.7–7.2 cm long, narrowly cylindrical below, campanulate above, the campanulate portion 2.7–4.4 cm long and 1.8–4.7 cm wide at the top, cylindrical part 0.3–0.4 cm wide, glabrescent within; lobes 1.1–3.4 × 1.2–2.3 cm, ovate, acute or sometimes obtuse, whitish tomentose above, overlapping to the left in bud.
Leaf blades 9.5–30 × 4–15 cm, oblanceolate to elliptic or sometimes obovate to broadly obovate, apex rounded to shortly acuminate, base cuneate, coriaceous, often drying yellowish-green, glabrous above, pubescent to glabrescent beneath; domatia usually present; petiole 3–15 mm long, glabrous to velutinous; stipules 4–5 mm long, triangular, long acuminate, soon caducous.
Flowers sweet-scented, pendulous in terminal, 3–17-flowered inflorescences; peduncle up to 15 mm long; usually with primary and secondary branches present, yellowish pubescent when young, flaking and reddish when older; pedicels absent; bracteoles 1.5–5 mm long, triangular.
Calyx yellowish-to amber-pubescent; tube c. 5-grooved and wrinkled when dry, 5–10 mm long; limb-tube 4–14 mm long, distinctly wider than the tube, with 5-ridges; lobes linear, 0.3–20 × 1.5–2.5(4) mm.
