Origin: in Ames, Iowa by E.L. Denisen, Iowa State Univ. Robertson (black) × Cuthbert (red). Cross made in 1952, selected in 1956, tested as 50-5255. Introd. in 1968. Tree: 4 to 6 ft. when pinched, does not sucker; upright; very vigorous; hardy; very productive. Tolerant to cane spot. Fruit: large, oval, glossy purple, lacks bloom which makes most purple varieties appear dusty, attractive; drupelets cohere to form a firm berry; ripens early July in central Iowa, picked over 2 to 3 weeks, fruit well exposed; processing use.
