A perennial hermaphrodite deciduous shrub. It grows 1.5-2.5m high.
Origin: in Scotland by D.L. Jennings, Scottish Crop Res. Inst. SCRI 688/12 × SCRI 6815/113 (parentage includes Rubus occidentalis, Glen Clova, Lloyd George, and Malling Landmark). Cross made in 1972; selected in 1976; tested as SCRI 7210/204; introd. in 1981. Marketing rights held by Plant Breeding Intl., Cambridge, U.K Tree: very productive, erect, vigorous, spine-free, pubescent canes, moderately winter hardy. Susceptible to cane midge and to root rot; gene A1 gives resistance to two strains of the European aphid vector of the raspberry mosaic virus complex; gene Bu gives resistance to raspberry bushy dwarf virus. Fruit: large; light to medium red; moderately firm; easy fruit abscission; ripens early.
