Origin: in Excelsior, Minn., by E.T. Andersen, Univ. of Minnesota. Fruit Breeding Farm. Newburgh selfed made in 1937; tested as Minn. 399; introd. in 1965. Tree: vigorous; winter hardy; productive; strong fruiting laterals produced; cane smooth, nearly spine-free. Susceptible to anthracnose. Well adapted to the cool, rather humid areas of north-central Minnesota. Fruit: medium large, similar to Latham; round; orange-red, glossy; drupelets large; soft, juicy, flavor pleasant; hangs well; easily picked.
