Origin: in Geneva, N.Y., by New York Agr. Expt. Sta. N.Y. 29773 (Bristol × Dundee) × Dundee. Cross made in 1954 by G.L. Slate, selected in 1957, tested as N.Y. 628; introd. in 1973. Tree: vigorous; erect; winter hardy; productive; slightly susceptible to powdery mildew. Fruit: large; black, glossy, slightly pubescent; coherent; firm, quality good; ripens midseason, concentrated ripening habit (two to three pickings).
