Cultivation

Origin: in Parkside, Saskatchewan, Canada, by A.J. Porter, Honeywood Nursery. Seedling of purple raspberry × (Viking × a native wild selection); selected about 1952; introd. in 1961. Tree: more winter hardy than Honeyking, but not as productive. Fruit: slightly smaller than Viking, red; firm, good quality; early season, ripening most of its crop during the first 2 weeks of the season; fresh and processing use.
