Characteristics

A creeping shrub. It loses its leaves during the year. The small branches are purple brown. They have glandular hairs, and bristles and prickles. The leaves have leaflets along the stalk. There are 5-7 leaflets and these are oval or triangle shaped. They are 2-4 cm long by 1-2 cm wide. The end leaflet is 6 cm long and has lobes and unequal teeth. The flowers are pink and 2 cm across. There are 1-3 in groups on short shoots near the ends of branches. The fruit is red and 1 cm across.

Environment

It is a temperate plant. It grows in slightly shaded wet places in mountain valleys between 600-3,900 m above sea level. It is native in central and western China. In Sichuan and Yunnan.
