Characteristics

Shrub, ± 300 mm tall, internodes dark coppery, brown or grey. Leaves 3-sided, without papillae. Flowers in often spiny cymes, mostly on lateral short-shoots, 7-14 mm diam., petals 1 mm broad, magenta, filamentous staminodes recurving. Nectaries orange or green. Fruit 5-locular, base funnel-shaped, valve wings absent.
