Characteristics

Cushion-forming perennial, branches ± 300 mm long, prostrate, with ± erect tips, internodes enclosed by old leaves. Leaves 3-sided, rounded on top, keel and margins toothed. Flowers solitary, 10-12 mm diam., bracteoles on lower half of pedicel, petals 0.75 mm broad, pale pink, filamentous staminodes present. Fruit 5-locular, base funnel-shaped, top with high rims, covering membranes with closing ledges, closing body small, hood-shaped, expanding keels not touching basally, apically ending in awns which merge into narrow valve wings.
