Characteristics

Plants caespitose; innovation buds intravaginal. Culms 5–45 cm high. Inflorescences obliquely ovate. Spikelets 7–11 mm long, with 4–6 florets. Glumes slightly exceeding florets, purplish; lower glume 6.6–11 mm long, c. 2.5 mm wide. Lemma: body 1.2–2.6 mm long, with margins straight, glabrous or rarely villous between the rows of tufts; both rows of hair tufts complete, with lower row equalling to exceeding upper row; lobes longer than body, but not twice as long; setae 1.3–2.2 mm long, shorter than lobes; awn 5.2–9.1 mm long, equalling to sometimes taller than setae; awn column tightly twisted, shorter than lobes. Palea obovate, 2–3.4 mm long, broad, 1–3 times as long as wide, slightly exceeding lemma sinus. Anthers 0.5–1.6 mm long. Caryopsis 1.2–1.4 mm long.
