Characteristics

Plants caespitose; innovation buds intravaginal. Culms 4–25 cm high. Leaves glabrous or villous; blade infrequently abscising, expanded or rolled. Inflorescences linear or rarely triangular, often drooping, 0.5–3.5 cm long; branches villous. Spikelets 5.5–7.5 mm long, with 4–6 florets. Glumes equalling florets; lower glume 5.5–7.5 mm long. Lemma: body 1.6–2.6 mm long, shiny, usually glabrous, sometimes with villous tufts; lobes shorter than body, partially fused to awn, with setae 0.1–0.8 mm long; awn 2.1–4.9 mm long; awn column with 1 or 2 twists; indumentum in both rows of only marginal tufts, with lower row not reaching upper row. Palea 2–3.2 mm long, broad, 1–3 times as long as wide. Caryopsis 1.1–1.3 mm long.
