Characteristics

Plants caespitose; without rhizomes. Culms 32–160 cm high. Inflorescences widely paniculate, with 10–50 spikelets. Spikelets 9–19 mm long, with 3–6 bisexual florets. Glumes equalling florets, acuminate; lower glume 9–16 mm long, 1–5-nerved. Lemma: body 3–4.2 mm long; lobes 2.5–4.5 mm long, with setae 0–2 mm long (setae plus lobes 3–6.5 mm long); awn 7–17 mm long; awn column tightly twisted, 2–6 mm long, equalling lemma lobes. Palea 5.5–9 mm long, villous between keels. Anthers 2.5–5.2 mm long. Caryopsis 2.2–2.5 mm long; hilum ovate, 0.4–0.6 mm long.
