Characteristics

Shrub (taken from cultivated plant). Stipules triangular, c. 0.5 mm long, slightly erose. Leaves chartaceous, lanceolate to narrow-lanceolate, sometimes narrow-elliptic, 12½-17.5 by 3.75-4.25 cm; apex acuminate; base cuneate, or obtuse; margin subentire or faintly and sparsely crenulate; nerves 6-9 pairs; petiole 0.5-1 cm. Inflorescences axillary, cymose, 2-4½ cm long, 2-4 times dichotomously branched. Peduncle 0.5-2.5 cm. Bracts triangular, 0.5-1 mm long, glanduliform at the margin, with colleters at the base inside. Pedicels 4-7 mm. Floral parts with sulphur-yellow particles in the tissue. Calyx 0.5-1 mm long, when young almost globular and undivided, the apical margin ± glandular and sometimes irregularly slightly 3-5-lobed, the lobes bent inward, later irregularly slightly splitting or deeply divided. Petals yellow, broad-elliptic or ovate, 3-3½ by 1.75-2 mm, obtuse or acute, entire or slightly erose. Disk annular-pulvinate, 0.75-1 by 1 1/3-1.5 mm, slightly 5-angular. Stamens 3, c. 1 mm, erect; anthers obscurely apiculate, slightly obliquely dehiscent. Pistil c. 0.5 mm emerging from the disk. Ovary 3-celled. Ovules 2 in each cell. Very immature fruit globose.
