Glabrous liane.. Latex threads present.. Stems quadrangular, green and smooth, becoming terete and brown.. Leaves opposite or subopposite, petiolate; petiole 1–1.4 cm. long, becoming corky with age; blade coriaceous or subcoriaceous, dark green above, paler beneath, elliptic, oblong or slightly obovate, 13.5–22(–25, fide Rodgers & Hall) cm. long, 5–7.2 cm. wide, long-acuminate, cuneate, with prominent reticulate veins below; margin coarsely serrate.. Inflorescence glabrous, consisting of dense axillary sessile fascicles; bracts ovate, 0.5–1 mm. long, fimbriate, persistent; pedicels ± 5–7 mm. long at anthesis, articulated at the base.. Buds obtusely subconical, 3–6 mm. long.. Flowers yellow or yellowish green, ± 1.2–1.5 cm. in diameter.. Sepals free, very unequal, broadly ovate or semicircular, 1.5–3 mm. long, rounded, entire or minutely erose-dentate at the apex.. Petals ovate or oblong, 6–8 mm. long, rounded, entire, reflexed at anthesis.. Disc with a short subcylindrical narrow column, slightly 5-lobed at the base, and expanded around the apex into a fleshy pad ± 4 mm. in diameter (i.e. somewhat mushroom-shaped).. Stamens with flattened filaments 3 mm. long, tapered gradually from base to apex.. Ovary trigonous with a subpyramidal style ± 2–3 mm. long; stigma entire; ovules superposed, (4–)5(–6) per locule..
