Leaves subopposite or alternate, petiolate; lamina deep green and glossy above, paler and duller below, 3–5·5 × (1)1·7–2·8 cm., lanceolate to oblong or elliptic, rounded at the apex, with margin entire, cuneate at the base, ± softly coriaceous, with c. 8–11 lateral nerves and densely reticulate venation slightly prominent below but not or scarcely so above; petiole 1–2 mm. long, with margins straight; stipules very small, eroded or fimbriate-ciliolate, persistent.

A shrub. It grows 80 cm high. The leaves are almost opposite. They are shiny and light green above and dull green underneath. The flowers are in groups or about 5 in the axils of leaves. They are yellow-orange. The fruit are orange. They are about 3 cm across.
Shrublet 30–60 cm. high, without latex, glabrous; stem with paired raised lines, olive-green and smooth at first, becoming quadrangular and reddish-purple.
Flowers solitary, axillary, bisexual, 6–8 mm. in diam.; buds c. 2 mm. long, depressed-globose; pedicels 5–8 mm. long, smooth, articulated at the base.
Petals yellowish-green, 2·5–3 mm. long, shortly unguiculate, with lamina broadly elliptic to circular, entire or with minutely denticulate margin.
Sepals green with pale or reddish ciliolate margin, c. 1 mm. long, unequal, semicircular, rounded, free.
Stamens 3, with filaments broad, flattened; anthers dehiscing by 2 oblique clefts confluent at the apex.
Fruit pale orange-yellow to red when ripe, globose, 2·6–3 cm. in diam., smooth, 1(2–3)-seeded.
Ovary ovoid-3-gonous, with style shortly pyramidal; stigma entire; ovules 2 per loculus.
Disk yellowish-green, convex, with 5-lobed margin, surrounding the base of the ovary.
