Shrub or liane, up to at least 3 m. high, with latex, glabrous; stems markedly quadrangular, pale brown to purplish-brown and smooth at first, becoming grey-brown to yellowish-brown and 4-lined or terete, without or with numerous small scarcely prominent lenticels.
Petals yellow to brownish-yellow with pale margin, 2·5–3 mm. long, oblong to elliptic-ovate, sessile, rounded, with eroded-denticulate margin, reflexed at anthesis.
Sepals with pale margin, c. 0·8 mm. long, subequal or ± unequal, united at the base, broadly ovate, obtuse to rounded, with margin eroded-denticulate to ciliolate.
Flowers 5–6(10), bisexual, in axillary sessile fascicles; buds c. 2 mm. long, ovoid-conic; pedicels 5–8 mm. long, smooth, articulated at the base.
Stamens 3, with filaments scarcely broadened at the base; anthers dehiscing by 2 oblique clefts not confluent at the apex.
Ovary ovoid-3-gonous, with style 2–3 mm. long, slender; stigma entire, punctiform; ovules 2 per loculus.
Disk shallowly conic with 5-angled free margin, surrounding the ovary.
