Characteristics

Dwarf shrub; not blackening when dried; branches, leaves and flowers opposite; leaves, bracteoles and perianth glabrous. Stems procumbent, forming mats 0.15-0.40 m in diameter; lateral branches long, rooting at intervals along their length; older branches glabrous, young ones hoarily pubescent. Leaves sessile, amplexicaul, swollen at base; blade small, ovate, ± 1.5 mm long. Flowers: sessile, axillary; bracteoles broadly ovate, margins hyaline, ciliate; perianth wings short, thick, dark pink; Feb., Mar. Seeds vertical.
