Dwarf shrub, up to 0.2 m high; not blackening when dried; branches, leaves and flowers alternate. Stems many, young branches pubescent. Leaves scale-like; blade ovate, 1.8 x 1.5 mm, apex obtuse with a fleshy, apical tubercle, base gibbous, densely pubescent; subfloral leaves shorter than bracts, with an obtuse, fleshy, apical tubercle. Flowers: in scattered, spicate inflorescences, flowering shoot terminating in a bud above flowers, covered with buds below; perianth segments wholly glabrous below wings, or only pubescent at edges or base of wings, white to cream-coloured; Oct.-Jan.
