Large plants forming coarse, straggly clumps with thick, cord-like roots. Stems erect, 1–3 m long, thick, branched. Leaves numerous, spreading, strap-shaped, 100–400 × 25–70 mm, leathery, green to yellowish green, apex unequally notched. Panicles 150–300 mm long, each branch 5–15-flowered. Flowers 20–30 × 20–30 mm, cream, yellowish or greenish with purple or brown spots. Sepals and petals spathulate, spreading, somewhat fleshy. Dorsal sepal 10–12 × 5–7 mm. Lateral sepals 10–12 × 5–7 mm. Petals 8–10 × 5–7 mm. Labellum c. 8 × 6 mm; lateral lobes erect, upper edge toothed; midlobe projected forwards like landing platform, fleshy, notched; spur c. 1 mm long, slightly curved, projected downwards, expanded near apex.
A gigantic species that is common in New Guinea; found growing on trees and rocks from sea level to around 1,000 m altitude. The plants have long, scrambling stems and grow in the upper branches of trees in rainforest and swamps, also by the sea, usually exposed to full sun.
