Plants forming extensive, spreading clumps on rocks (rarely on bases of trees). Stems 200–500 mm long, freely branched from near base, usually pendulous. Leaves 4–8 per stem, linear, 100–200 × 10–15 mm, dark green. Racemes arching to pendulous, 100–200 mm long, 4–15-flowered. Flowers 25–30 × 25–30 mm, usually white with crimson central spotting, rarely wholly crimson. Sepals and petals widely spreading or cupped, narrowed into basal stalk. Dorsal sepal 12–15 × 6–8 mm. Lateral sepals 14–17 × 7–9 mm. Petals 12–15 × 5–7 mm. Labellum 5–7 mm long, thick-textured, waxy; lateral lobes c. 6 × 3 mm, incurved; midlobe small, conical, fleshy.
Highly localised; found growing as a lithophyte on boulders in moist, shady situations in ravines, gorges and on cliff faces in dense rainforest, sometimes forming extensive patches; also occurs on boulders lining streams in wet forests.
