Plants forming spreading clumps on rocks. Stems 200–800 mm long, freely branched. Leaves 4–10 per stem, linear, 80–200 × 15–20 mm, green to yellowish green, thick-textured, channelled. Racemes erect to arching, 100–250 mm long, 5–25-flowered, peduncle much longer than rachis, green or purple. Flowers crowded, 25–30 × 25–30 mm, white with brown to crimson central spots, sometimes wholly white. Sepals and petals widely spreading, very broad, narrowed into basal stalk. Dorsal sepal 12–16 × 5–8 mm. Lateral sepals 12–16 × 5–8 mm. Petals 10–14 × 4–6 mm. Labellum 2–3 mm long, thick-textured, waxy; lateral lobes c. 3 × 3 mm; midlobe very small, conical.
Localised in humid forests; found growing as a lithophyte on large volcanic rocks, boulders, cliff faces and escarpments in situations ranging from dappled shade to nearly full sun, but with strong air movement; occurs less commonly as epiphyte on fibrous-barked tree trunks, cycads and grass trees.
