Characteristics

Small epiphyte usually consisting of a single drooping growth. Stem 20–50 mm long. Leaves 2–10 per stem, linear, 60–100 × 3 mm, channelled, drooping, fleshy, dark green, pink or reddish, spotted. Racemes 50–120 mm long (rarely branched), 2–10-flowered. Flowers opening sequentially, 8–10 × 8–10 mm, crystalline white or pale pink, sometimes with yellowish markings. Sepals and petals cupped or widely spreading, apex broadest, lateral sepals and petals abutting or overlapping at base (no lateral gap). Dorsal sepal 4–6 × 3–4 mm. Lateral sepals 5–7 × 3–4 mm. Petals 4–5 × 2.5 mm. Labellum 3–4 × 4–5 mm, with a prominent, narrow, deep, solid spur (chin); lateral lobes c. 2 × 1 mm, with internal purple stripes; midlobe erect, c. 2 mm long, mostly free and protruding well forward of lateral lobes, shallowly notched, inner surface covered with dense, white, glandular hairs, calli bright yellow, appearing as 4 distinct structures but central 1 deeply lobed and double-headed, flanking calli are smaller.

Widespread and common; found growing on trees and rocks in many different sheltered habitats; also occurs on humid slopes and in gullies in relatively dry situations and is often frequent in drier types of rainforest; grey myrtle is a favoured host in N.S.W.
