Roots slender, flexuous, pubescent.. Sterile stem short, 3–4-leaved; lower 2–3 leaves sheath-like, short, the upper leaf lanceolate or oblong-lanceolate, acute, up to 13–18 cm. long and 3–4 cm. broad.. Flowering stem erect, slender to rather stout, leafy along its length; leaves 5–9, the lowermost 1 or 2 sheath-like, acute, the middle ones elliptical-lanceolate or elliptical-oblanceolate, acute, the largest up to 6–17 cm. long and 2–7 cm. broad, decreasing in size up the stem.. Inflorescence cylindrical, 5–21 cm. long, 2–3.5 cm. in diameter, loosely to rather densely many-flowered; bracts reflexed, lanceolate, acute, 1–3 cm. long..
