Characteristics

Plants slender to stout, (30-) 80-160 (-330) mm tall; leaves 3-8, 9-63 mm long. Inflorescences somewhat dense, (1-) 4-15 (-35)-flowered; bracts generally overtopping flowers, spreading, broadly ovate. Flowers usually dull white or yellow with dark reddish-brown markings along the main veins. Median sepal subtruncate, 4-6 mm long, fused to the bases of the petals and the lateral sepals to form a broad, thickened mentum; lateral sepals broadly elliptic-falcate, often slighdy longer. Petals deltoid-falcate, as long as the median sepal. Lip hemispherical, 4-19 mm long, with saccate spurs less than 1 mm long. Each pollinium with a globose viscidium; stigma flap slightly longer than wide, sometimes bilobed; rostellum with 2 prominent forward-projecting arms.
