Sterile stem to 5 cm. high, 4–5-leaved; lower 2–3 leaves sheath-like, obtuse, the upper 1–2 lanceolate to elliptical-lanceolate, acute, up to 7–16 cm. long and 2.5–4.5 cm. broad.. Fertile stem slender to rather robust, almost covered by adpressed sheathing leaves; sheaths 10–15, lanceolate, acute, up to 4–10 cm. long and 1–3 cm. broad.. Inflorescence narrowly cylindrical, 8–23 cm. long, 1.5–2.5 cm. in diameter, rather densely many-flowered; bracts soon reflexed, lanceolate, acute, 1–2.5 cm. long.. Flowers curved outwards, sessile, white to crimson-red; ovary ± 5 mm. long.. Sepals and petals deflexed and ± rolled-up, united to one another and to the lip in their basal fourth.. Intermediate sepal oblong-elliptical, rounded, 5–6.5 mm. long, ± 1 mm. broad; laterals very obliquely elliptical-oblong, obtuse, equalling the intermediate, 1.5–2.5 mm. broad, 2-veined.. An orchid that grows in the ground. It grows 1 m high. It has long tubers 3-6 cm long by 1-2 cm wide. The leafy stem has 3-5 leaves and the lower ones sheath the stem. The upper leaves are 6-15 cm long by 2-4.5 cm wide and they are sword shaped. The flowering stalk is 23 cm long. There are many white to red flowers.
Column 3.5–5 mm long, curved; stigmas 1.5–3.5 mm; rostellum mid-lobe varying from slightly longer to much longer than side lobes.
Median sepal 4.5–7 × c. 1 mm, oblong, rounded at apex; lateral sepals oblique and slightly longer, c. 2 mm wide.
