Characteristics

Terrestrial herbaceous plants with erect stems. Stem: underground portion 14-29 mm long, covered by several leaf sheaths; above-ground portion 155-355 mm tall, green-reddish. Tubers ovoid. Leaves two, borne close to ground, wilted at anthesis, 41 x 27-42 mm, broadly ovate, acuminate, entire, with prominent striation on underside, glabrous; transition between leaves and cauline leaf sheaths abrupt. Leaf sheaths three to five, leaving a portion of stem exposed, 21-41 mm long, narrowly ovate, acute, apex some-times reflexed. Inflorescence 24-113 mm long, slender and lax, 2-17-flowered; bracts reflexed or partly reflexed at anthesis, 9.9-22.2 x 2.1-5.1 mm, linear, acute, glabrous, entire. Flowers non-resupinate, white, occasionally purplish-pink, sometimes with light red-brown tinges on sepals and petals, spur tips green; sweetly scented. Ovary 7.8-11.9 mm long, narrow, longitudinally ridged, glabrous, green, ribs faintly purple, standing away at an acute angle from rachis. Labellum galeate, globose, with a prominent dorsal ridge, apical flap prominent, 1.2-3.0 mm high and 2.6-3.0 mm wide, erect, unevenly crenulate, margins sometimes inflexed, apex broadly obtuse; side of labellum forming a loose tube with petals, base of labellum sparsely hairy inside; galea aperture 3.7-4.3 mm wide and 4.0-4.8 mm tall, forward to slightly upward facing. Spurs 20.9-26.2 mm long, longitudinally ridged, oriented at an obtuse angle with line of dorsal ridge of labellum, pointing away from each other at a slight angle, basal two-thirds straight, then curving slightly downwards, tips occasionally broader than remainder, green-dark purple. Lateral sepals ovate, obtuse, apiculate, entire, projecting forward for about half their length, then gradually reflexing downward, fused with the median sepal and lateral petals for 2.3-3.5 mm, the nonfused part 6.1-7.1 x 3.2 mm. Median sepal oblong, obtuse, entire, projecting forward for about half its length, then gradually reflexing downward, nonfused part 5.9-6.4 x 2.5-2.9 mm. Lateral petals ovate with narrow rounded apex, crenulate, concealed by edges of labellum for about half of their length, then gradually reflexing downward, nonfused part 5.5-5.8 x 3.2-3.8 mm. Gynostemium largely filling galea. Column part straight, 4.4-5.2 x 0.9-1.2 mm, white. Stigma erect, truncate, 1.4-x 2.3-2.5 mm. Rostellum weakly triangular with a more or less retuse appendix, 1.8-2.0 x 1.6-mm; viscidia lateral, disc-like. Anther projecting downwards, 1.9-2.1 x 2.8 mm, connective truncate, not extending beyond individual anther thecae, creamy white. Lateral anther appendages placed at anther base, 1.1-1.6 mm long.
