Characteristics

Plants slender, erect, (210-) 350-550 (-870) mm tall, stems sometimes puberulous; leaves 2-5, longest lamina lanceolate, nearly erect, sheathing in the basal 1/3, 60-250 mm long. Inflorescences dense, (15-) 35-50 (-130)-flowered; bracts prominent, 3-8 times the length of the 5-8 mm long papillose ovary, spreading at c. 90° from the stem. Flowers mainly white, median sepal and petals lemon-yellow, rarely with pink markings on the lip. Median sepal narrowly ovate-falcate, to 4 mm long; lateral sepals slightly longer. Petals fused to the sepals in basal 1/3, narrowly oblong to obovate. Lip galeate with wide entrance; spurs saccate, 1.5-4.5 mm long, densely hairy in the mouth. Viscidia discoid and prominent; stigma broadly ovate, obtuse to retuse; rostellum with 2 parallel arms as long as the stigma.

Terrestrial herb 30–108 cm high; tubers to 4.5 cm long, ellipsoid to fusiform, woolly.
Inflorescence 5–27 × 2–3 cm, densely many-flowered, the rhachis hairy.
