Characteristics

Decumbent, shrubby plant to 1.4 m tall, scabrous to hirsute. Leaves oblanceolate, tapering towards base, entire or dentate; lamina to 9 cm long, to 1.8 cm wide. Flowers in loose, terminal spikes to 15 cm long; bracts linear to narrowly elliptic, 8-76 mm long, acuminate; bracteoles triangular 4–16 mm long. Sepals united in a 5-lobed tube, to 1 mm long. Corolla 10–22 mm long, hairy outside, bearded inside, pale blue; barbulae with compact papillate heads; wings c. 1 mm wide. Ovary 2-locular; indusium 2–3 mm wide, sparsely hairy basally, shortly hairy on lips. Fruit ellipsoidal, to 4 mm long, rugose, glabrous, with 2 sterile cavities.
