Characteristics

Subshrub to 80 cm tall, glabrous, glaucous; stems glossy when mature. Leaves sessile, orbicular to elliptic, dentate; lamina to 20 mm long, to 15 mm wide; upper leaves stem-clasping. Flowers in terminal spikes; bracts leafy; bracteoles deltoid, to 1 mm long. Sepals ovate, to 1 mm long, free almost to base. Corolla c. 10 mm long, glabrous outside, bearded inside, blue; barbulae numerous, papillate apically; wings c. 1.5 mm wide. Ovary 2-locular; indusium c. 1.5 mm long, ±glabrous, hairs on lips short. Fruit ellipsoidal, 4 mm long, wrinkled.
