Characteristics

Shrub to 70 cm tall, viscid becoming varnished; hairs minute, substellate, scurfy. Leaves shortly petiolate, obtuse, obovate-elliptic or spathulate, entire, thick; lamina 10-14 mm long, 2-5 mm wide. Flowers solitary in leaf axils; peduncle to 1 mm long; bracteoles linear, c. 1 mm long. Sepals broadly ovate, to 0.5 mm long, connate. Corolla 8-10 mm long, with few varnished hairs outside, densely bearded inside, cream; barbulae distinct, mostly simple; wings nearly obsolete. Indusium 1 mm long, with scattered, white hairs above. Fruit ovoid, c. 4 mm long, glabrous, black or purple.
