Characteristics

Erect herb to 40 cm tall, with glandular hairs and long or short, simple, hairs at 90°. Leaves sessile, oblanceolate to narrowly oblong, dentate; lamina 2-6 cm long, 4-25 mm wide. Flowers in racemes or thyrses to 30 cm long; bracts leafy; peduncle 2-7.5 cm long; bracteoles elliptic to narrowly oblong, 10-35 mm long, dentate. Sepals linear, 6-16 mm long, free. Corolla 17-30 mm long, with long hairs outside, densely bearded inside, blue to purple with yellow throat; barbulae simple; wings striate, 3-5 mm wide. Indusium c. 1 mm wide, with short, yellowish beard, with white or occasionally purple hairs below. Fruit ellipsoidal, to 6 mm long, tuberculate, with long and minute hairs.
