Characteristics

Erect shrub to 60 cm tall, with fine, appressed, white hairs. Leaves sessile, ovate, usually with an acute tooth apically, dentate; lamina 6-35 mm long, 4-16 mm wide. Flowers in dense, leafy thyrses or panicles to 15 cm long; bracts leaf-like but smaller, entire, imbricate; bracteoles linear-elliptic, 4-6 mm long. Sepals semiorbicular, to 6.5 mm long, connate basally. Corolla 8-12 mm long, with fine, appressed, simple, white hairs outside, bearded inside, mauve to blue; barbulae few, simple; wings 1 mm wide. Ovary 2-locular; indusium 1-1.75 mm long, stiff purplish beard ±exceeding bristles on lips. Fruit ovoid, to 3.5 mm long, rugose, pubescent, usually 1-seeded.
