Characteristics

Stiff, erect perennial, many-stemmed, to 1 m tall, with minute, glandular hairs and simple hairs; stems striate, almost glabrous. Basal leaves sessile, ovate-spathulate, dentate, with lamina to 60 mm long and 15 mm wide; cauline leaves ±triangular, with lamina to 3 mm long. Flowers in thyrses or racemes to 20 cm long; bracts as cauline leaves; peduncle to 6 cm long; bracteoles triangular, 2-4 mm long. Sepals triangular, 1-4 mm long, connate basally. Corolla 20-30 mm long, puberulous outside, densely bearded inside, cream to blue; barbulae thin, simple; wings to 1 mm wide. Indusium c. 2.5 mm wide, beard ±equalling bristles on lips, hairy below. Fruit ellipsoidal, 5-6 mm long, tuberculate; with minute, glandular hairs and simple hairs, occasionally longer, simple.
