Characteristics

Erect subshrub to 50 cm tall, with large, brown-headed, glandular hairs and simple, yellowish hairs at 90°. Leaves sessile, oblanceolate to linear, entire or dentate; lamina 2-9 cm long, 1-10 mm wide. Flowers in terminal spikes; bracts lanceolate to linear, 5-30 mm long; bracteoles narrowly lanceolate, 4-12 mm long. Sepals rim-like, to 0.5 mm long. Corolla 10-30 mm long, with short simple and glandular hairs and occasionally long, stiff, yellow hairs outside, bearded inside, deep blue-purple; barbulae branched apically; wings 1-2.5 mm wide. Ovary 2-locular; indusium 1.5-3 mm wide, hairy on both surfaces. Fruit obovoid, to 4 mm long, striate-tuberculate, glabrous or pubescent.
