Characteristics

Ascending shrub to 1.2 m tall, usually glabrous, sometimes viscid when young. Leaves sessile, linear to narrowly oblanceolate, entire or dentate; lamina 1.5-12 cm long, 1-25 mm wide. Flowers in terminal spikes to 20 cm long; bracts linear 6-45 mm long; bracteoles narrowly lanceolate, 3-7 mm long. Sepals ovate, 1 mm long, connate. Corolla 8-25 mm long, glabrous outside or sparsely shortly hairy, bearded inside, blue to white; barbulae papillate apically; wings c. 1 mm wide. Ovary 2-locular; indusium 2 mm wide, shortly hairy basally. Fruit ellipsoidal, to 5 mm diam., with 2 sterile cavities, rugose, glabrous.
