Characteristics

Decumbent or ascending herb to 35 cm tall, ±woody at base, almost glabrous or with short, ±arcuate, white hairs. Leaves very acute, elliptic to narrowly obovate, tapering towards base, coarsely dentate; lamina 10-50 mm long, 4-17 mm wide. Flowers in spikes to 15 cm long; bracts leaf-like but smaller; bracteoles narrowly elliptic to narrowly ovate, 6-9 mm long. Sepals broadly ovate, to 0.6 mm long, basally connate. Corolla 12-23 mm long, hairy outside, densely bearded inside, blue or white; barbulae simple; wings to 1.5 mm wide. Ovary 2-locular; indusium to 2 mm long, purplish beard ±equalling bristles on lips. Fruit ovoid, 3-5 mm long, rugose, pubescent.
