Characteristics

Spreading shrub to 3 m tall, glabrous, viscid when young. Leaves sessile, obovate to narrowly elliptic, dentate; lamina 2-8.7 cm long, 7-40 mm wide. Flowers in terminal spikes to 6.5 cm long; bracts lanceolate to ovate, 8-23 mm long; bracteoles linear, 5-9 mm long. Sepals rim-like, 0.3 mm high. Corolla 13-20 mm long, pilose or glabrous outside, bearded inside, blue to lilac; barbulae long, papillate apically; wings 1-2 mm wide. Ovary 2-locular; indusium c. 2 mm wide, sparsely shortly hairy on both surfaces basally. Fruit cylindrical, to 4 mm long, grooved, otherwise smooth, glabrous.
