Characteristics

Divaricate subshrub to 1.5 m tall, with closely appressed, white hairs; stems striate; branches spinescent. Basal leaves narrowly obovate, tapering basally, entire or dentate, with lamina 1-2 cm long, 4-6 mm wide; cauline leaves sessile, narrowly obovate to linear, with lamina 3-10 mm long. Flowers in distant spikes to 20 cm long; bracts similar to leaves; peduncle ±obsolete; bracteoles linear-triangular, c. 2.5 mm long, tip acute. Sepals ±orbicular, c. 0.5 mm long, ±free. Corolla 12-18 mm long, with fine, appressed, silky, white hairs outside, densely bearded inside, pale blue; barbulae prominent, papillate apically; wings 0.5-1.5 mm wide. Indusium c. 1.5 mm wide, purplish beard ±equalling lips. Fruit ovoid, c. 2.5 mm long, rugose, with white, silky hairs.
