Characteristics

Stiff, erect, many-stemmed perennial to 60 cm tall, with hairs at 90°; stems scarcely striate. Basal leaves sessile, linear to lanceolate, entire, with lamina 18-35 mm long, 3-6 mm wide; cauline leaves ovate to linear, with lamina 1.5-27 mm long. Flowers in thyrses to 40 cm long; bracts leafy; peduncle to 6.5 cm long; bracteoles ovate to linear, 1-4 mm long. Sepals triangular, 1-3 mm long, free or connate basally. Corolla 13-32 mm long, with not appressed hairs outside, bearded inside, blue to white; barbulae simple; wings 0.5-2 mm wide. Indusium c. 2 mm long, with stiff beard exceeding or equalling bristles on lips. Fruit ellipsoidal, 4-8 mm long, striate, tuberculate, hairy.Widespread in arid north-western and central Australia.
