Characteristics

Spreading shrub to 70 cm tall, usually with long, not appressed hairs. Leaves sessile, ±stem-clasping, elliptic, entire or dentate; lamina 24-63 mm long, 13-42 mm wide. Flowers in terminal racemes to 17 cm; bracts leaf-like but smaller; bracteoles elliptic, 20-30 mm long. Sepals ovate, to 1.2 mm long, basally connate. Corolla 25-40 mm long, with dense coarse closely appressed hairs outside, densely bearded inside, blue; barbulae simple; wings to 4 mm wide. Ovary 2-locular; indusium 2.5-3.5 mm long, almost obscured by dense, white beard at least equalling bristles on lips. Fruit cylindrical, 4-8 mm long, pubescent, smooth.
