Characteristics

Erect or divaricate subshrub to 50 cm tall; stems striate usually glabrous or glabrescent, rarely with appressed, simple hairs and glandular hairs at 90°. Basal leaves ephemeral; cauline leaves triangular, with lamina 1-2 mm long. Flowers in distant spikes to 20 cm long; bracts and bracteoles similar to leaves; peduncle ±obsolete. Sepals linear, 1-2 mm long, free or connate basally. Corolla 10-17 mm long, with long, appressed hairs outside, densely bearded inside, white or pale blue; barbulae simple or capitate; wings c. 3.5 mm wide, ±ciliate. Indusium 1.5 mm wide, sparse white beard ±equalling lips. Fruit ovoid, 3-5 mm long, tuberculate; hairs coarse, arcuate, golden.
