Characteristics

Spreading subshrub to 70 cm tall, scabrous to tomentose or glandular-hairy. Leaves sessile, oblanceolate to narrowly elliptic, entire or few-toothed, with prominent axillary hairs; lamina 3-60 mm long, 1-12 mm wide. Flowers in terminal spikes to 15 cm long; bracts ovate, 2-9.5 mm long, acute to acuminate, fringed with stiff hairs to 1 mm long; bracteoles ovate, 2-5 mm long, equalling bracts, with silky hairs basally. Sepals obsolete. Corolla 6-10 mm long, ±appressed hairy outside, bearded inside, white to pale blue; barbulae simple or papillate apically; wings 0.1-0.5 mm wide. Ovary incompletely 2-locular; indusium c. 1 mm wide, shortly hairy basally on both surfaces. Fruit cylindrical, 2.5-4 mm long, ±rugose, glabrous, usually 1-seeded.
