Characteristics

Ascending to prostrate herb to 20 cm tall, hispid. Leaves sessile, ovate to linear, dentate or serrate; lamina 1-5.5 cm long, 3-20 mm wide, dentate. Flowers in racemes or thyrses to 30 cm long; bracts leafy; peduncle to 8 cm long; bracteoles elliptic to obovate, 10-25 mm long, entire. Sepals linear, 3-8 mm long, free. Corolla 13-27 mm long, with sparse hairs outside, bearded inside, blue to purplish; barbulae simple, short; wings 2-6 mm wide, striate. Indusium c. 3.5 mm wide, with yellowish beard. Fruit ellipsoidal, to 5 mm long, tuberculate, with long, simple, white hairs and minute, glandular ones.
