Characteristics

Subshrub, usually much-branched, to 45 cm high, with fine hairs. Leaves sessile, linear to oblanceolate, broad basally, entire or dentate; lamina 2-6 cm long, 3-8 mm wide. Flowers in terminal, scapose spikes to 10 cm long; bracts ovate, 3-27 mm long; bracteoles narrowly lanceolate, 4-6 mm long. Sepals rim-like, sinuate, 0.3 mm long. Corolla 5-8 mm long, with fine hairs outside, few simple hairs inside, white to pale blue; barbulae simple or papillate apically; wings 0.5-1 mm wide. Ovary 2-locular; indusium c. 1 mm wide, base with sparse, short hairs. Fruit globular to cylindrical, to 3 mm diam., rugose, glabrous, with 2 sterile cavities.
