Leaf-blades 4–17 cm. long, 3–10 mm. wide, obtuse.. Racemes 1–4 cm. long; internodes and pedicels narrowly clavate, glabrous; spatheoles convolute.. Sessile spikelet narrowly lanceolate, 3–5 mm. long; lower glume subcoriaceous, finely nerved, keeled above but merely inflexed below, glabrous; upper lemma bifid almost to the base; awn 8–12 mm. long; anthers 2–3 mm. long.. Pedicelled spikelet small, ± 1 mm. long, with an awn up to 4 mm. long.
More
Sessile spikelet 4.5–5.5 mm long, 1/5 as long again as the pedicel, linear-ovate, dorsally compressed, rounded at the base; inferior glume slightly convex; superior lemma bifid almost to the base; awn 6–9.6 mm long, geniculate; anthers 1.7–2.5 mm long.
Racemes 2.5–4.5 cm long, often exserted from the linear spatheole, glabrous; peduncles both shorter than and as long as the racemes; internodes and pedicels flattened.
Erect or ± scrambling annual, occasionally perennial; culms up to 120 cm high, much branched only above; internodes wide (2.5–3.5 mm), compressed.
