Characteristics

Stems 60-130 cm tall, sturdy, rarely branched. Leaves opposite and decussate; lamina 29-50 x 8-21 mm, oblong or oblong-triangular; petiole 1-7 mm long. Inflorescences 5-9 per stem, 8-15-flowered, the umbels sometimes branched; peduncles 6-30 mm long; pedicels 8-12 mm long. Calyx segments 3-4 x 1 mm. Corolla lobes 5.5-6 x 3.5-4 mm, cucullate, dorsally dark brown, ventrally green striped brown, completely glabrous. Corona c. 2 mm long, equalling or slightly surpassing the gynostegium, green; each lobe hollowed at apex, the hollow bordered dorsally by a 3-lobed rim and ventrally by an erect 2-or 3-pronged appendage c. 1 mm long; ventral side of corona lobe with two vertical wings flanking the appendage. Anthers with appendages 0.75 mm long, triangular-ovate, appressed against the side of the gynostegial head; corpusculum 0.27-0.42 mm long, always flanged, the flanges translucent and clearly visible only with high magnification; pollinium attachment median; pollinium 0.7-0.82 mm long, compressed ellipsoid with apical crest, the germination zone forming the crest. Gynostegium white suffused brownish purple. Fruit c. 4.5 cm long; seed 3 mm long, coma 20 mm long.
