Characteristics

Stems 25-60 cm tall, sturdy, occasionally sparsely branched. Leaves opposite and decussate; lamina 22-44 x 8-25 mm, oblong to triangular or occasionally narrowly oblong; petiole 2-4 mm long. Inflorescences 3-7(-15) per stem, 4-10-flowered; peduncles 10-40 mm long; pedicels 8-10 mm long. Calyx segments 4-6 x 1-1.5 mm. Corolla lobes 8-11 x 4-7 mm, slightly cucullate, dorsally greenish brown or purplish, ventrally green striped with reddish brown or purple; dorsal surface glabrous or occasionally pubescent at apex, ventral surface glabrous, margin minutely ciliate. Corona 3.5-4 mm long, slightly surpassing the gynostegium, green; lobes hollowed at apex, the hollow bordered dorsally by a shallow simple rim and ventrally by a stout appendage consisting of two erect parallel finger-like processes 2.5-3 mm long; ventral side of corona lobe with two vertical wings flanking the appendage. Anthers with appendages 1-2 mm long, triangular-ovate, appressed against the side of the gynostegial head; corpusculum 0.4-0.52 mm long, very conspicuously flanged; pollinium attachment subterminal; pollinium 0.7-0.82 mm long, compressed obtriangular, with the point of attachment at the inner top corner of c. 90°; germination zone occupying the outer corner and extending about half-way across the top of the pollinium and half-way down its outer side. Gynostegium reddish brown or purple. Fruit c. 6 cm long; seed not seen, coma 25 mm long.
