Characteristics

Stems c. 9 cm tall, unbranched. Leaves opposite and decussate; lamina 28-34 x 6-13 mm, oblong or oblong-elliptic; petiole 2-4 mm long. Inflorescences c. 3 per stem, 4-flowered; peduncles 15-19 mm long; pedicels 8-10 mm long. Calyx segments 3 x 1 mm. Corolla lobes c. 7 x 3 mm, flat, spreading to slightly reflexed at anthesis, livid with red veins; dorsal and ventral surfaces glabrous, margin sparsely ciliate. Corona 4.5 mm long, much exceeding the gynostegium, dark red; each lobe erect, flat in dorsal view with quadrate lower half contracting abruptly into a gradually tapered blade inflexed at apex; ventral surface with two median linear appendages carried horizontally over the gynostegium. Anthers with appendages c. 1 mm long, triangular-ovate, appressed against the gynostegium; corpusculum 0.3 mm long, not flanged; pollinium attachment subapical; pollinia 0.5 mm long, compressed pyriform, the germination zone extending along the middle half of the outer edge, not reaching the point of attachment. Gynostegium white. Fruit unknown.
