Densely branched succulent perennial shrub, 10-45 cm tall, 10-50 cm diameter, internodes prominent between the sheaths, stems, and branches woody. Leaves gray-green, clasp and fused with the stem toward their bases to form sheath 5-12 mm long, free parts 8-15 mm long, 4-6 mm broad, spreading widely, triquetrous, margins and keels cartilaginous, without teeth, tip sharply mucronate, epidermis smooth. Flowers solitary, ±18 mm diameter, calyx lobes 5, shorter than petaloid staminodes, petaloid and filamentous staminodes white, surrounding the central cone of stamens, filaments white, shortly papillate near bases, pollen yellow, filamentous staminodes and stamens overtopping stigmas, stigmas mostly 0.3 mm long, top of ovary raised, nectaries in a ring. Fruit 7-9 mm diameter, locules mostly 10, top raised and dome-shaped, with low rims, base shortly funnel-shaped, closing bodies white, medium-sized, not blocking the exit of the locule completely, valve wings broad, tapering slightly toward tips, covering membranes complete, closing ledge absent, with indistinct closing bulge or small rodlet below covering membrane. Seeds pale, longer than tall, almost smooth.
