Characteristics

Caespitose, phyllopodic perennial graminoid. Not viscous on sheaths. Culms terete, robust, 315-610 x 0.6-0.8 mm. Leaves basal, channelled directly above sheath and becoming terete, margin serrate above sheath, apex acuminate 1-4, 72-115 x 0.3-0.8 mm. Sheaths firm, brown at base with a slight tinge of red, longitudinally striate at base. Ligule membranaceous, 2.2-4.6 mm. Inflorescence a pseudolateral spike-like panicle, elongate, brown coloured when young, dark grey when past maturity, 40-47 x 2-6 mm, proximal rachis length 10-14 mm. Proximal primary inflorescence bracts firm, enclosing spikelet bundles, channelled, apex acute to acuminate, widened at base, 61-84 mm long, longitudinal veins pronounced. Primary inflorescence bracts with marginal extensions that abruptly narrow into a long tip. Spikes 3-4, 6.5-19.0 mm long, slightly overlapping. Spikelets narrow lanceolate, 6.4-7.5 x0.8-1.1 mm, pedicellate, 2-3 spikelets per spike, light reddish-brown in colour. Proximal spikelet prophyll usually 1 per spikelet, usually membranaceous, with notable raised central vein extending to mucro, 2.0-2.6 mm long, prophyll mucro 0.4-1.4 mm long. Rachilla 1.6-6.2 mm long. Glumes 4-5 per spikelet, with short hairs throughout, without evident hyaline margin, apex acute to acuminate, proximal glume 3.0-5.4 mm long, subproximal glume 4.9-7.8 mm long. Glume mucros varying in length, proximal mucro length 0.2-1.4 mm, subproximal mucro length 0-0.3mm. Flowers and fruits unknown.
